Spring walk

About 15 minutes from our house is the beginning of the Banks-Vernonia Trail, a well-groomed path that connects two small towns (Banks and Vernonia!) that are about 20 miles apart. Since the weather has been better and we had slept well the night before, we decided to check it out on Sunday afternoon instead of our usual nap.

At one clearing, a deer stood about 30 feet from the path. It looked as we approached, then watched us continue. It remained still and tracked us with its eyes as we kept walking for a couple of minutes--until we couldn't see it anymore. I'd never seen a deer do that without hopping away.

I could not get over how green this field was!

The wonder of agriculture.

As a contrast to the beauty of creation all around us, we stopped to gaze awhile and this fantastic heap of garbage behind a seemingly abandoned house along the trail. This picture shows onlly about 1/10th of the stuff!

What a great way to spend part of an afternoon!
